AmeriCorps NCCC Class 18 Team Leader Spotlight: Rachel Evans

Rachel Evans   Name: Rachel Evans Hometown: Renton, Washington   Rachel Evans is serving a second year with the NCCC campus in Vinton, Iowa. She served last year as member of Class 17. For Class 18 she is serving as a Field Team Leader where she will be leading a team of 10-12 Corps Members while they serve on projects throughout the North Central Region.

Sign up Deadline for 2011 ELAP Approaching

  John R. Whitaker, State Executive Director for the Iowa Farm Service Agency, reminds producers sign up for the 2011 livestock, honeybees, and farm-raised fish losses ends on January 30, 2012, under the Farm Service Agency’s Emergency Livestock Assistance Program (ELAP).  In addition to submitting a notice of loss, producers must file an application for payment by this date.

2012 Robert D. Blue Scholarship Application Available Online

  State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald reminds Iowa students that the application for the 2012 Robert D. Blue Scholarship is available online at www.rdblue.org. All Iowa residents who plan to attend college in Iowa for the 2012-2013 school year are eligible to apply. "Over the years we've helped hundreds of Iowa students meet their college costs with this scholarship," Fitzgerald stated.

TRAER POOL COMMITTEE TO HOST COMMUNITY FORUM-Online Community Survey Launched

   On Thursday, January 26, 2012, Traer’s Pool Committee will hold a community forum to discuss the future of the city’s swimming pool and bathhouse. MLK DAY: A Day of Service

    This Monday, January 16, 2012 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This day shines a spotlight on service as a powerful force to bridge economic and social divides - today and throughout the year. Class 18 Team Leaders from the AmeriCorps NCCC campus in Vinton are partnering with United Way of East Central Iowa and several non-profit organizations in honor of MLK Day.

Amanda Skalicky   Name: Amanda Skalicky Hometown: Paynesville, Minnesota   Amanda is serving her second year in NCCC as the Class 18 Oak Support Team Leader at the Vinton campus in Iowa. As a Unit Support Team Leader she will be assisting Unit Leader Fritz Noren with supporting the seven Oak teams and leading teams in the field as needed.

AmeriCorps team leader spotlight: Paolo Baltar

Paolo Baltar Name: Paolo Baltar Hometown: Sunnyvale, California   Paolo is serving with the Vinton campus as the Class 18 Operations Support Team Leader where he is assisting Support Services Specialist John England with supporting teams with uniforms, tools and other supplies as well as leading teams when needed. As a Team Leader, Paolo hopes to learn a great deal from the experiences and challenges he faces while in NCCC.

Rachel is serving a second year with AmeriCorps NCCC as the Community Relations Support Team Leader at the Vinton campus where she will be assisting with recruitment and media outreach in addition to leading teams when needed.

CP Friends of Library Planning More Barnes & Noble Bookfairs

  At its Jan 5 meeting the Center Point Friends of the Library reviewed the Barnes & Noble Bookfair they had in December and decided to sign up for Easter and Christmas 2012 Bookfairs.
